Introduction
The Arabic Buds series teaches children basic Arabic skills, which are listening, speaking, reading and writing.
This amusing series educates using a variety of activities such as objective lingual games, useful stories and songs, taken from the child's environment and surroundings.
In the first level, given the child’s young age and because they are new to learning Arabic, reading and writing are presented side by side in one book. However in the second level, a two-book format is used to separate the reading activities and writing exercises, allowing for a more comprehensive and variable approach to learning. The second level book builds upon the first level principles of reading and writing, without neglecting the focus on basic Arabic skills. Therefore, a child could start their instruction in Arabic at this level, if desired.

A number of objectives were taken into consideration when developing the first level of Arabic Buds. They are:
  1. The book is organized into eight units of familiar subjects related to the child's life and surrounding environment.
    These units include:
    • Unit One: The Amusement Park
    • Unit Two: On the Farm
    • Unit Three: My Computer
    • Unit Four: With the Neighbors
    • Unit Five: During Eid
    • Unit Six: The Traffic Light
    • Unit Seven: In the Sea
    • Unit Eight: My Favorite Sport
  2. Each unit includes four lessons. For example, the first lesson in "Unit One" shows the letter ??? (baa), the second lesson shows the letter ??? (taa), the third lesson shows the letter ??? (thaa), and the fourth lesson shows the vowel ????? (al-alif).
In "Unit Two", the first lesson shows the letter ??? (jeem), the second lesson shows the letter ??? (haa), the third lesson shows the letter ??? (khaa), and the fourth lesson shows the vowel ??? (waaw). Each unit of the book continues to show the alphabet of the Arabic language including the vowels.
  3. Each unit starts with an illustrative picture. Shown on a full page, the picture illustrates a story or a lovable child’s tale, and includes words familiar to the child, found in lessons in the unit. For instance, "Unit Six: The Traffic Light" includes a story that presents a set of morals and values related to preserving order and respecting traffic laws. The story and morals, presented by the teacher to the child includes the basic words in that unit’s lesson like nail, umbrella, playground, wax, street, laundry, parrot, glue, empty, arm, street, etc.
  4. Each lesson in the unit includes a conversation picture, part of the larger illustrative picture found at the start of the unit. This smaller picture represents a story, situation, scene or a number of situations and scenes, and serves as an introduction to teach the intended letter. The story focuses on the basic words that contain the intended letter. In "Unit Three: My Computer", for example, the purpose of the third lesson is to teach the letter ??? (raa), and so the story concentrates on the words that contain this letter, especially the words in the reading lesson like ??? (feathers) and ??? (monkey).
  5. The primary words to teach the letter are mentioned after the picture at the beginning. In lesson one of "Unit Five: During Eid", for instance, the words ??? (cage) and ????? (rocket) are shown after the picture showing two forms of the letter ??? (saad) in two different colors. The original form is shown first, then the second form. The word ??? (cage) is shown with the original form before the second word ????? (rocket) also includes the second form and an illustrative picture for each of the reading words.
  6. Different exercises are provided. The child is asked to match the letter with the picture that contains it, and to color the letter in all its forms.
  7. At the end of each lesson exercise is a written activity asking the child to write the letter in its two basic forms, or all its forms, such as when teaching ??? ('ayn) and ??? (ghayn).
  8. The vowels ?????, ?????, ????? (al-alif, al-waaw, al-yaa) are introduced gradually in the first three units, which will help the child to complete the exercises. The book contains a number of oral, visual and written exercises to review the basic skills learned and to acquire the ability to pronounce, distinguish and write letters.
  9. Each unit concludes with a beautiful song related to the topic of the unit. To achieve the ultimate benefit, the songs are sung by children and included on a CD so they can be listened to and sung with easily.
Additionally, a story recommendation for children from the Reading Club series is provided at the end of each unit. Published by Al-Manhal Publishing and Distribution House, these stories are meant to reinforce the values introduced and to review the letters taught. These stories are suitable for children in the beginning stages of reading.
While creating this series, we adopted the compound analysis method, which is explained, along with other teaching methods in later pages.
